News rolling in from The Hollywood Reporter is that Robert E. Howard’s stories about SOLOMON KANE are coming to the screen via Davis Films, and they already have the man to play Kane! James Purefoy (RESIDENT EVIL) will be picking up the sword and kicking ass.
Kane is a 16th century soldier who learns that his brutal and cruel actions have damned him but is determined to redeem himself by living peaceably. But he finds himself dragged out of retirement for a fight against evil.
Sounds pretty sweet, gives me a VAN HELSING vibe though. Either way I’m looking forward to this one. It’ll most likely be based on the Solomon Kane story RED SHADOWS, but don’t quote me on that. I’m just assuming because that’s the original story in the Kane series. SOLOMON KANE will be the first film of a trilogy based on the Solomon Kane character. Michael J. Bassett will be writing and directing. Producer Samuel Hadida had this to say on casting Purefoy, after an ‘exhausting search’ for the actor to play the lead:
“(James) Purefoy’s ability to embody Kane’s complex heroism, struggles and failings as he wages a mortal battle made him the perfect modern hero in this epic fantasy.”
Good deal. We’ll keep you updated on any SOLOMON KANE news as we hear it.
