Texas Chainsaw prequel Leatherface gets another lackluster poster

Leatherface Alexandre Bustillo Julien Maury

LEATHERFACE, a prequel to the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE from INSIDE directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, has been getting some positive word of mouth after its recent FrightFest screening, which is a relief. Not only have I never been fully on board with the concept of this film - I have no strong desire to see a Leatherface origin story, and this version of such a story sounds highly questionable to me - but the long delay and reshoots (the movie was shot two years ago, with reshoots a year later) put further doubt in my mind. Apparently Bustillo and Maury have managed to make it an entertaining gorefest.

Whether word of mouth were good or bad, I would still be watching LEATHERFACE when it's released this fall. I'm a CHAINSAW completist. However, if I were on the fence, I have to say that the posters that have been released for the film wouldn't be doing much to win me over.

Last month, we got a poster with the image of a little kid wearing a cow head. That was quickly followed by a poster of someone being dragged through the woods. Now a third poster has arrived online, boasting a shot of a girl being menaced with a chainsaw.

This new poster may be my favorite of the bunch, since it actually features a chainsaw and all, but it's not so great. The best thing about it is the fact that it reminds me of a scene in TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 involving heroine Caroline Williams, a chainsaw, and a lust-stricken Leatherface.

Scripted by Seth M. Sherwood, LEATHERFACE tells the following story:

In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface.

Stephen Dorff, Lili Taylor, Vanessa Grasse, Sam Strike, Jessica Madsen, Finn Jones, James Bloor, Nicole Andrews, Julian Kostov, and Sam Coleman star.

LEATHERFACE will be available exclusively through DirecTV as of September 21st, with a wider VOD and limited theatrical release to follow on October 20th.
