The Killing Kind: Jane Casey novel to become a limited series

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Eleventh Hour Films, which is backed by Sony Pictures Television, has started developing a limited series based on author Jane Casey's novel The Killing Kind (pick up a copy HERE), which just reached store shelves last week. Zara Hayes will be directing the series, and will also be scripting the adaptation with Jonathan Stewart. According to Deadline, the writers have been tasked with "reimagining" the book.

Casey's novel has the following description:

As a barrister, Ingrid Lewis is used to dealing with tricky clients, but no one has ever come close to John Webster. After Ingrid defended Webster against a stalking charge, he then turned on her – following her, ruining her relationship, even destroying her home. Now, Ingrid believes she has finally escaped his clutches. But when one of her colleagues is run down on a busy London road, Ingrid is sure she was the intended victim. And then Webster shows up at her door… Webster claims Ingrid is in danger – and that only he can protect her. Stalker or savior? Murderer or protector? The clock is ticking for Ingrid to decide. Because the killer is ready to strike again.

That sounds like the set-up for an interesting thriller, and according to the reviews on the Amazon page that's what Casey managed to craft. The book is said to tell the story of "a breathless game of cat and mouse" with "heart-stopping twists".

Eleventh Hour's creative director Paula Cuddy said,

The Killing Kind is an exceptional thriller from the brilliant Jane Casey, which delivers the twists, turns and emotion to grip a global TV audience. Ingrid is a compelling protagonist, whose story is most timely as she navigates professional and personal ethics, her journey making us question ‘justice’ in every sense."

Casey and Cuddy will be executive producing the limited series alongside Jill Green and Eve Gutierrez. Other Eleventh Hour Films productions include the shows Alex Rider, Foyle's War, Safe House, New Blood, and Vexed.
