The Matrix 4 receives first reaction!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

So this is cool! Obviously take this with a grain of salt for now, given the nature of the internet, but we may have just gotten our first official reaction to Lana Wachowski's upcoming The Matrix 4 (rumored to be subtitled "Resurrections"), who directed the film solo without sister Lilly Wachowski for the first time in the series' history.

This is coming from noted test screener David Manning on Twitter, who had this to say:

THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS screened this afternoon and it is: weird, meta, engrossing, surprisingly funny, and ambitious to a fault. I expect WOM (Ed note: "word of mouth") to be wildly mixed but the people who love it will *love* it.

This is definitely the work of CLOUD ATLAS Lana Wachowski, not JUPITER ASCENDING Lana Wachowski.

And here's the tweet itself:

Even bettter, this basically corroborates what Reeves said about the project, stating in an interview:

We have a wonderful director, Lana Wachowski, and she has written a beautiful script that is a love story. It’s inspiring.

Now, no official plot details have been revealed as of yet (which is surprising with the release date rapidly approaching), but I for one am appreciating the mystery. I might even try to actually avoid the trailers until release this time (though will probably fail, because I am weak-willed). But, regardless, I'm personally excited as hell for the new Matrix film! While I definitely have my misgivings about The Matrix sequels (and they certainly don't hold a candle to the original 1999 film), I've always felt they were far better than their reputation – especially for their amibition alone (which, if Manning is to believed, the fourth film will follow suit). In fact, Curio (along with Sarah Zedig of let's talk about stuff) released a great video recently, discussing The Matrix Sequels Are Good, Actually, which is worth checking out as it talked a lot about what I enjoyed about the sequels (and some other things I hadn't even considered)! But no matter what, though, it seems like at the very least the film won't be some sort of shitty retread (and if it is indeed shitty, it'll at least be shitty in an interesting way). Either way, consider me super hyped!

Meanwhile, The Matrix 4 – directed Lana Wachowski (co-director of The Matrix trilogy), and starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lambert Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Eréndira Ibarra, Priyanka Chopra, Andrew Caldwell, Brian J. Smith, Ellen Hollman and Christina Ricci – will jack into theaters and HBO Max December 22nd, 2021!

So what do you guys think? Fans of The Matrix? Fans of the series as a whole? If so, looking forward to the fourth film at all? Anyway, sound off below!
