Tilda Swinton, Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska join vampire romance

Art-house darling Jim Jarmusch, director of such films as DOWN BY LAW, GHOST DOG: WAY OF THE SAMURAI and BROKEN FLOWERS, has focused his attentions toward a vampire film with a most intriguing cast (though you could never fault Jarmusch for not bringing together solid casts). The as-yet-untitled project was just announced via Screen Daily, and is being called a “crypto-vampire love story”, set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangiers.

Though no other plot details are available, said love story will star Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton (MICHAEL CLAYTON), Michael Fassbender (PROMETHEUS) John Hurt (ALIEN) and Mia Wasikowska (ALICE IN WONDERLAND). (Fassbender and Wasikowska recently paired on the gothic re-imagining of JANE EYRE, pictured right) Shooting will take place in Germany, Morocco and Detroit in early 2012.

Quite eclectic, all of those details…The equally eclectic Jarmusch said about the project: “I’ve been imagining this film for years. I can’t wait to now realise it with these remarkable collaborators.”

I can’t wait either: If anyone can give vampire lore an offbeat twist, it’s Jarmusch.
