Walden Media bringing intergalactic librarian Rex Libris to the big screen

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Though I’ve personally never heard of it, REX LIBRIS is evidently a popular title among the graphic novel set. It is also the latest comic book set to make a journey to the silver screen. Thirteen issues of the humorous sci-fi series were published from August 2005 to October 2008 (thanks Wikipedia!), and now Walden Media (THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA) wants to put REX on the big stage, according to Variety.

Here’s the book’s synopsis:
The astonishing story of the incomparable Rex Libris, Head Librarian at Middleton Public Library, and his unending struggle against the forces of ignorance and darkness. With the aid of an ancient god who lives beneath the library branch, Rex travels to the farthest reaches of the galaxy in search of overdue books. He must confront incredible foes, such as powerful alien warlords who refuse to pay their late fees. Wearing his super thick bottle glasses, and armed with an arsenal of high technology weapons, he strikes fear into recalcitrant borrowers, and can take on virtually any foe from zombies to renegade public-domain literary characters with aplomb.

Sounds like a good time. It instantly triggers thoughts of MEN IN BLACK, as well as THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY – not a bad thing.

Evan Turner and Michael Bostick are handling the film version for Walden Media, though no screenwriter or director has been set. We’ll keep you posted.
