Will Smith to star in remake of Hitchcock’s Suspicion? Kill me now.

Ugh. Here we go again, another remake. Honestly, I’m not even up for writing a diatribe about why this sucks. Just tired of it.

According to Latino Review, Will Smith is looking to produce and star in a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s SUSPICION. Paramount is apparently the studio in line to make the thing, although there’s no mention of a writer or director. Maybe Francis Lawrence or some other hack will want to get involved. SUSPICION was based on the Frances Iles novel “Before the Fact”, so maybe Smith can act like it’s really just an adaptation of the novel and not simply leeching off the Hitchcock film.

In case you’re completely unfamiliar with the story, here’s what “Before the Fact” is about:
Lina McLaidlaw waits until she is 30 before accepting a marriage proposal from the feckless and irresponsible Johnnie Aysgarth. As head of a fine household and guardian of both the morals and finances of the man she chose to marry, she finds her husband was, and perhaps still is, a killer.

In the 1941 version, Cary Grant played the sinister hubby, while Joan Fontaine portrayed the suspicious wife. Smith, of course, would take on the Grant role. But who will be starring opposite him? How about Beyonce! Wouldn’t that be awesome?!
