Trailer for comedic slasher movie Detention hits, isn’t a complete misfire

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

You remember DETENTION, don’t you? The slasher movie starring Dane Cook? Directed by Joseph Kahn, the guy who brought you TORQUE? Sure, it’s all coming back now. Well the flick is about to play at SXSW and MTV has just slapped up the first trailer, which you can watch below. Surprisingly the movie looks like a bit of fun, if all too reminiscent of SCREAM, SCARY MOVIE, CHERRY FALLS and a heap of other outdated slasher movies. At least it doesn’t seem to be as terrible as I was imagining… (Although the TORQUE and Lady Gage references are pretty lame.)

The plot:
A downtrodden 17-year-old girl is sent to detention where she must survive a slasher film killer and save the world in time for prom.

Written by Kahn and Mark Palermo and featuring Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook, Shanley Caswell, Spencer Locke and Aaron David Johnson, DETENTION doesn’t have a release date just yet but it might receive one after it screens at SXSW. Take a look at the trailer and tell us if you’re pumped or not.
