Hot Spot, a sci-fi thriller from celebrated Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Smoczyńska (whose credits include The Lure, The Silent Twins, and Fugue), will be having its world premiere at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival, which is set to run from from July 16th through August 2nd at the Concordia Hall and J.A. de Sève cinemas in Montreal, with additional screenings and events at Cinéma du Musée. Following that, the film is set to receive a theatrical release in North America on August 21st, courtesy of Focus Features – and to start building the hype, a trailer has dropped online! What is Hot Spot about?
Directed by Smoczyńska from a script by Robert Bolesto, the film has the following synopsis: In Hot Spot, set in a near future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord. As the detective’s identity slowly unravels, his world enters a state of hypnotic meltdown.
Andrzej Konopka (The Thaw), Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Reika Kirishima (Drive My Car) star.
The film was produced by Bogna Szewczyk-Skupień, Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska, and Gregory Jankilevitsch. Beata Rzeźniczek, Marcin Czernik, Christos V. Konstantakopoulos, Małgorzata Seck, Łukasz Poniński, Marcin Łuczaj, and Jan Naszewski serve as executive producers.
