Ariana DeBose, who won an Academy Award earlier this year for her performance in Steven Spielberg’s version of West Side Story, has signed on to star in the psychological thriller House of Spoils for Blumhouse Television and Amazon Prime Video. Deadline reports that House of Spoils is being written and directed by the filmmaking duo of Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy, whose previous credits include the 2019 film Blow the Man Down, episodes of the recent mini-series adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, and episodes of the AMC+ series Moonhaven.

DeBose will be playing an

ambitious chef who opens her first restaurant but has to contend with the powerful spirit of the estate’s previous owner who threatens to sabotage her at every turn.

House of Spoils is being produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse; Alex Scharfman, Lucas Joaquin, and Drew Houpt of Secret Engine; and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath of Divide/Conquer. Blumhouse Television’s Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold serve as executive producers. Filming is expected to begin this fall.

Amazon Studios’ Julie Rapaport provided the following statement:

Since Blow the Man Down, we have been huge fans of Bridget and Danielle’s unique filmmaking voice and knew we needed to be a part of whatever they wanted to do next. Pairing their thrilling script with Ariana’s incredible talent is a dream come true, and we could not be more excited to bring this story to the screen and to our customers around the world.”

McCumber added:

We’re excited to see Ariana’s fresh, bold and spirited energy that won her an Oscar in a role that is completely different. And with the gifted filmmaking team of Bridget and Danielle, the talent in front of and behind the camera is exceptional.”

House of Spoils sounds interesting, and the fact that it’s one of the first projects DeBose is making after her Oscar win makes it even more interesting. I look forward to seeing how it turns out.
