Dread gave The Grudge franchise creator Takashi Shimizu’s new horror film Howling Village a theatrical release on August 13th, and the film is available to watch On Demand as of today, August 17th. (Check it out on Amazon Prime.) Coinciding with the VOD release, we’ve gotten our hands on an EXCLUSIVE clip from the film, and you can check it out in the embed above! It’s a lengthy clip, running about 2 and a half minutes, and offers a glimpse of a very strange moment involving odd sayings and urine.

The clip is followed by the trailer.

Inspired by a Japanese urban legend, Howling Village was written by Shimizu and Daisuke Hosaka. It has the following synopsis:

After her brother goes missing, Kanade, a young psychologist visits his last known location, an infamous haunted and cursed site known as ‘Howling Village’ to investigate his disappearance. Her investigation reveals that the village’s mysteries are connected to her family and works to uncover her family’s dark history.

Ayaka Miyoshi, Ryota Bando, Megumi Okina, and Renji Ishibashi star.

If you want to own Howling Village on physical media, the film will also be getting a Blu-ray release on September 14th. Pre-order a copy at THIS LINK.

Shimizu truly built the Grudge series from the ground up, starting off with short films that dug into the concept before moving on to the features Ju-on: The CurseJu-on: The Curse 2, Ju-on: The GrudgeJu-on: The Grudge 2, and even staying at the helm for the American remake The Grudge and its follow-up, The Grudge 2. Given that he has that much horror cred to his name, it will be interesting to see what he has done with Howling Village. I was initially disappointed that there aren’t any furry werewolves on display in the trailer, but it does appear that there is some kind of creature action in here.
