Jigsaw is going public with his torture in SAW 3D, which might be cooler than any of us imagined. It’s also looking to be the last. No, seriously.
“It’s time to stop,” says Oren Koules, a producer on all the Saw movies, in an interview with USA Today. “We have told the story we wanted to tell, and this is going to be a great farewell.”
This is just a prelude to an official announcement Lionsgate is evidently going to make at Comic-Con on Friday, where Tobin Bell and the producers will be in attendance. (As well as some unexpected guests?) The traps will shut down for good after “coming alive”.
But what’s actually pretty fascinating is the first new still released, depicting a poor fellow (played by Jon Cor) wrestling with one of Jigsaw/Hoffman’s devices in full public view. A rather neat twist, I must admit. Another picture (also below) features Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) with the most diabolical dune buggy ever constructed.
Apparently, SAW 3D was re-edited and submitted six times to the Motion Picture Association of America to bring it from an NC-17 to an R rating. Producer Mark Burg has this to add: “I’m surprised we got it. It’s more violent than any of them. But it’s in 3-D, it answers all the questions, it comes full circle. We have the goods on this one.”
Is it possible? Is this really the last SAW film – and will it actually be good? I personally kind of enjoyed the sixth film, but still have not been in any rush to see another one. With these new developments, maybe waiting for Jigsaw’s ultimate game has been worth it?
