We told you about Will Smith signing up to topline the long awaited cinematic adapation of I AM LEGEND right here. While many fans began to immediately rend their clothes and gnash their teeth, I felt (for once) somewhat more circumspect about the whole thing.
I’m about to join the renders and the gnashers though. Variety has dropped the bomb that schedules have moved around and WB is looking for the flick to start shooting this summer. Taking a complicated, apocalyptic story to the screen with little prep time seems like a potential disaster. Especially when said pic wasn’t supposed to start filming until early next year.
The dude that’s really gotta be feeling the heat is director Francis Lawrence. If I just got that news I’d be on my way to the laundromat to wash the pants I just pissed in, but at least now he’ll have a very good excuse if the whole thing collapses like a drunk frat boy on a Saturday night.
