Ian McKellen cons Helen Mirren in trailer for Bill Condon’s The Good Liar

Warner Bros. have released the first trailer for THE GOOD LIAR, an upcoming thriller based on the widely acclaimed novel by Nicholas Searle which stars Ian McKellen (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST) and Helen Mirren (HOBBS & SHAW). That's pretty much all you need to know, but if you want a few more details, McKellen plays a career con-artist in the film who begins to develop feelings for the wealthy widow (Mirren) he's hoping to swindle.

Bill Condon (GODS & MONSTERS) directed and produced the film from a screenplay by Jeffrey Hatcher (MR. HOLMES). In addition to Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, THE GOOD LIAR also stars Russell Tovey (Quantico) and Jim Carter (Downton Abbey). Although the film wasn't exactly on my radar until this point, it looks surprisingly thrilling, and you can hardly complain when you've got McKellen and Mirren leading the way.

The official synopsis for THE GOOD LIAR:

Career con artist Roy Courtnay (McKellen) can hardly believe his luck when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Mirren) online. As Betty opens her home and life to him, Roy is surprised to find himself caring about her, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life.

THE GOOD LIAR will hit theaters on November 15, 2019.
