Idris Elba says the monsters in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim are “some big MF-ers!”

When Stringer Bell speaks up…we damn well better listen!

In all candor, I’m in the tank for British actor Idris Elba. Dude runs the full gamut…he can do indies, tent-poles, comedies, thrillers, protagonists, villains, accents…the full f*ckin’ Monty. He’s set to torch the screen in GHOST RIDER 2 this weekend, has Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS due this summer, and currently plays the title role in the superb English detective show “Luther.” Oh, and if he couldn’t be any busier, dude’s also filming Guillermo del Toro’s epic alien spectacle PACIFIC RIM, about which he had a few things to say to MTV.

When asked specifically about the monsters in PACIFIC RIM, Elba stated:

“Godzilla would throw out the wrong sort of image, I think. We are talking about some big MF-ers. There’s a lot of actuality in this one because he’s created huge sets. I mean, we’ve taken over four sets in Pinewood in Toronto and built a lot of the stuff that you might see. Yes, there is huge CGI I’m sure, but we built a lot of stuff too.”

Sounds damn promising to me. Glad to see del Toro embrace the practical as much as the computer generated, though I’m not surprised. Looks like we’re certainly in for a mega-movie, in every which way. Don’t just take it from that quote though, listen to Idris in the video embedded below!

With a cast that also includes Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Rinko Kikuchi (below), Rob Kazinsky and Willem Dafoe – PACIFIC RIM will hit theaters on May 10, 2013.
