Independence Day: Resurgence gets a new international poster

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

The premiere of INDEPENDENCE DAY was held on June 25th, 1996. The long-awaited sequel, INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE, will be invading theatres on June 24th, 2016, one day short of that premiere's twentieth anniversary. The imminent return of our alien attackers is heralded on the international poster distributor Twentieth Century Fox has released today, with the reminder that the otherworldly invaders have had twenty years to prepare for this second invasion. Judging by the scale of the destruction glimpsed in the trailer and Super Bowl spot, these preparations have included more than simply installing a good anti-virus.

We always knew they were coming back.  After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

INDEPENDENCE DAY director Roland Emmerich returned to the helm for this rematch, working from a screenplay he crafted with Dean Devlin (his co-writer on the first film), James Vanderbilt, James A. Woods, and Nicolas Wright.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE stars Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Maika Monroe, DeObia Oparei, Jessie Usher, Sela Ward, and William Fichtner.
