There aren’t many film series that could have a suitable tie-in with a museum, but the INDIANA JONES movies are an even better fit than the globetrotting archaeologist’s iconic fedora. And while the dusty doctor might never return for any more big-screen exploits, the results of his movie digging will be on display for all to see (eventually).
The National Geographic Society’s Adventures of Archaeology exhibition “immerses you in the science and history of field archaeology,” and features a vast and exclusive collection of Indiana Jones film props, models, concept art, and set designs from the Lucasfilm Archives, an interactive tour of legendary sites that sheds light on historical myths such as the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail, and a lot more. As exhibits manager Kyra Bowling tells Hero Complex: “We take a look at the inspirations behind the stories that you see in the films, and give the visitor the ability to see the origins of those stories, and the realities of those stories, and where fact meets fiction, and to go into depth about the real-world archaeology behind some of those fun adventures in the films.”
The exhibition, which has been at Montreal’s Science Center, starts drawing that line on the map next month as it heads out on a six-year world tour.
