Remember the crazy bidding war, the eventual win, and the official announcement of the live action video game adaptation of DANTE’S INFERNO? If not, check out the recap HERE. Well guess what? The live action film is not the only adaptation in the works: now there’s an animated film getting made as well!
From the makers of DEAD SPACE: DOWNFALL, it’s one of the many video games looking to bridge the gap into other media–not only with movies, but with animated STD features as well. The animated DANTE’S INFERNO will be following the game’s basic premise and storyline (based on Dante’s classic poem “The Divine Comedy” aka “Dante’s Inferno.”), which goes a little something like this: “Inferno” will mirror the game’s plot and follow Dante’s journey through the nine circles of Hell — limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery — in search of his true love, Beatrice.
Not that I’m against over saturation of anything, but isn’t this infactuation with DANTE’S INFERNO going over the top just a titch? Seriously, the game hasn’t even come out, and it already has animated and feature film deals in the works. What’s next? DANTE’S INFERNO RAPS FOR CHRISTMAS or some other sort of related album to release to the masses? Yeesh!
Regardless, DANTE’S INFERNO the animated movie is coming, and if you liked DEAD SPACE: DOWNFALL, then I suppose it’s a good thing. Victor Cook is directing, who also directed HELLBOY ANIMATED: BLOOD & IRON, and Brandon Auman is writing the animated adaptation.
If you’re not quite sold on the project, executive producer and creative director Jonathan Knight has one last plea: The animated feature will be a great companion piece to the game. The feature will explore aspects of the poem that the game does not, and will provide more insight into the characters and the unique story adaptation that the game has established.
