Infidel movie adaptation scores director

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Written by Pornsak Pichetshote and illustrated by Aaron Campbell and released in March by Image Comics, the popular comic INFIDEL is already getting the big-screen treatment via TriStar. The company snagged the rights to the comic in a competitive auction with several other studios back in May before TriStar won the bidding war. And today we have word via Variety that the upcoming feature adaptation of the comic has snagged its director in the form of Hany Abu-Assad, who most recently directed THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US starring Idris Elba and Kate Winslet.

INFIDEL tell a tale of terror and is described as

a haunted house story for the 21st century, following an American Muslim woman and her multi-racial neighbors who find themselves living in a building haunted by strange creatures that seemingly feed on xenophobia.

Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, who wrote the horror flick OUJIA together, are re-teaming to write the screenplay.  Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta are attached to produce the project along with Anonymous Content. Nicole Brown and Nick Krishnamurthy will oversee the project for TriStar.

I haven't had the chance to read the comic book yet, but it made it on my must-read list before it even came out as the buzz was already off the charts. The fact that feature adaptation is currently being penned by the writing team behind THE POSSESSION, THE BOOGEYMAN, and the original OUIJA flick (not the awesome Mike Flanagan-directed sequel OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL) has me more than worried. But maybe the comic is strong enough no one could ruin it. I guess we'll see one of these days.
