Insidious: Out of the Further has officially received its MPA rating, offering horror fans a better idea of what to expect from the sixth entry in the franchise. According to the Motion Picture Association’s ratings board, Insidious: Out of the Further has been rated PG-13 for “strong violent content, bloody images, terror and some strong language.”
The rating falls in line with the rest of the Insidious franchise, which has built its reputation on supernatural scares and unsettling imagery rather than gore. With the sequel set to reach theaters on August 21, 2026, the classification is a good sign that the film is on track for release.
Insidious: Out of the Further is directed by Jacob Chase (Come Play), who also co-wrote the screenplay with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell are producing the sequel, with Johnson-McGoldrick serving as an executive producer alongside Ryan Turek, Steven Schneider, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones.
The story follows a trio of stalkers who infiltrate a quiet suburb and force a new family into the astral plane, where they uncover a terrifying truth: the Further is bleeding into the real world.
Franchise veteran Lin Shaye reprises her role alongside Amelia Eve (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Brandon Perea (Nope), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (The Originals), Sam Spruell (Legend), Island Austin (I Can Only Imagine 2), and Laura Gordon (Late Night with the Devil). Spruell takes on the role of the film’s central villain, a demonic entity named Cyrus.
Shaye recently teased that Cyrus could become one of the franchise’s most memorable antagonists, revealing that Spruell’s performance left a strong impression on her both on and off the set.
“He was truly scary. When I met him on the street, I had a visceral response, which was crazy. So it’s a whole new catalog of people and even of ideas.”
She went on to compare Cyrus to one of horror’s most iconic monsters, explaining that the villain has a commanding presence unlike anything the Insidious series has featured before.
“There’s a grandness to him. It’s sort of like Dracula. There’s this enfolding and this bigness. I did say to Sam it feels like Shakespeare. It feels very otherworldly, bigger than life, but very rooted in reality. I think that’s a perfect combination for an antagonist who’s gonna be really awful.”
