After seeing Amy Ryan in GONE BABY GONE, I was amazed at how legitimate this woman seemed. Her performance as a white trash mother who’s daughter is kidnapped felt and looked like a real Jerry Springer kind of gal. But she is not this woman, and has been doing other good work including “The Wire”, CAPOTE and she can soon be seen in DAN IN REAL LIFE. So this character is nothing like Amy, in fact, far from it.
When I met Amy at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills I was so impressed with her. She is a lovely woman who is so far removed from Helene. She is pretty, well spoken and seemed to be very bright. I know, she’s an actress and it is her job to make a character as trashy as Helene seem real, but damn is this a great performance. I won’t be at all surprised if she ends up with an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal. So check it out this coming Friday when GONE BABY GONE opens at a theatre near you.
