Whether it is on stage, television or films, Kenneth Branagh has done it all. The multi-talented writer-director-actor is best known for his work in Shakespeare adapted films such as HENRY V, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, OTHELLO, HAMLET and LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST. The critically acclaimed star continues to live up to his reputation by revisiting and directing Michael Caine and Jude Law in an updated version of Anthony Shaffer’s original 1970 play, SLEUTH.
The theatrical play, which initially hit the big screen under the direction of Joseph Mankiewicz in 1972, starred Michael Caine as Milo Tindle. In Branagh’s version rewritten by Harold Pinter, Jude Law embodies Caine’s former role of Milo while Caine steps into the opposing role. The mortal feud between the two characters in the updated version is as, if not more riveting, action-packed, suspenseful and naughty than the first. Branagh was nothing short of sincere, pleasant and personable when I met with him last week at NYC’s Regency Hotel to talk about working with Caine, updating the set and what he perceives to be the difference between the two versions of SLEUTH. It was a welcomed pleasure and memorable experience to speak with a man of his caliber. Check it out.
