Taylor Sheridan shows have fervent fans, but few of them are as distinct from Yellowstone as Lioness. Originally titled Special Ops: Lioness, Sheridan’s series centered on a CIA branch that trained female operatives to infiltrate areas of the world where traditional military forces could not go. The first season introduced us to Lioness recruit Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira), and season two brought in Genesis Rodriguez as Josephina Carrillo. With season two improving over the first, season three aims to take things up a notch again.
In Season Three, hidden networks, foreign operatives, and personal betrayals collide. Joe (Zoe Saldaña) walks the line between duty and home as unseen forces circle her world. Patterns appear where they shouldn’t, names vanish, and paths rearrange. Guided by Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman) and Westfield (Michael Kelly), Joe confronts enemies operating in the shadows, leaving her to reckon with a war that now reaches into every part of her life.
I spoke with Laysla De Oliveira and Jill Wagner about the new season of Lioness. Laysla De Oliveira talked about how different this new season feels compared to the first two, as it focuses on the military run by Joe, operating on United States soil. Jill Wagner talked about the physical challenges this season presented and the different types of warfare they explored. They also chatted about their work opposite Taylor Sheridan, who, in addition to writing every episode, also has a recurring role as Delta Force Operator Cody Spears in his most substantial acting role since his time on Sons of Anarchy.
