Interview with the Vampire TV series: filming begins in December

AMC has ordered an eight-part adaptation of the Anne Rice novel Interview with the Vampire, and we already know who will be playing the three characters that make up the dysfunctional vampire “family” at the heart of the story: Sam Reid (The Newsreader) has been cast as Lestat de Lioncourt, Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) as Louis de Pointe du Lac, and Bailey Bass (Avatar 2) as Claudia. Now we know when the show will be going into production, as director Alan Taylor revealed to the folks at Collider that filming will begin in New Orleans this December.

Taylor, who recently directed the Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark, is executive producing Interview with the Vampire and directing the first two episodes of the show, and he said he took this job because

I have a personal relationship with the book… I read Interview With the Vampire, and I just loved it. It gave me this feeling, which I think is the main thing I took away from the book, which is, every other story you’ve heard about vampires is kind of bullshit, and here’s the truth. This is the reality. This is what it would really be like.”

Rice’s novel centers on

the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac as he relates the story of his life to a reporter, in particular how he was turned into a vampire and then mentored by Lestat de Lioncourt.

The Interview with the Vampire mini-series is AMC’s first step in building a franchise based on Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles series of novels. This endeavor is being overseen by Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul producer Mark Johnson. Rolin Jones, co-creator and showrunner on the first season of the HBO series Perry Mason, is the creator, showrunner, and writer of the Interview with the Vampire series. Jones and Johnson will executive produce the show alongside Taylor. Anne Rice and her son Christopher Rice are also on board as executive producers.

Interview with the Vampire will air on AMC and AMC Plus sometime in 2022. The story previously served as the basis for a 1994 film directed by Neil Jordan (watch it HERE), in which Lestat, Louis, and Claudia were played by Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Kirsten Dunst.
