Ironheart: Anthony Ramos lands a key role in Marvel’s upcoming series

Marvel‘s Ironheart is climbing to new heights after casting Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) in a mysterious role. Ironheart will star Dominique Thorne as Marvel character Riri Williams, a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.

Chinaka Hodge (Amazing Stories, Snowpiercer) will serve as head writer for the series. There is no word on who Ramos will play, but Deadline says that the part could be similar to how Jonathan Majors was introduced as Kang the Conquerer in Loki. In other words, his role could start relatively small but grow as the MCU expands.

With the writer’s room for the six-episode series already established, Hodge is taking the lead for one of Marvel’s newest and most intelligent characters. Hodge has previously penned episodes of Snowpiercer and Amazing Stories, but she’s also a poet and playwright known for For Girls with Hips: Collected Poems and Writings, Dated Emcees, Chasing Mehserle, and Mirrors in Every Corner. Riri Williams was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato back in 2016 and was introduced as a 15-year-old MIT student who managed to reverse engineer Iron Man’s armor to create her own and caught the attention of Tony Stark himself. In addition to taking on solo missions, Riri Williams is also a member of the Champions. If Marvel plans to introduce a team of young heroes down the line, Williams will likely be a part of the group.

As for Ramos, he captured the hearts of millions thanks to his role in the original Broadway cast of Hamilton. In addition to singing his guts out for In the Heights, his other credits include HBO’s In Treatment, Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It, and A Star is Born. He’s also set to star alongside Dominique Fishback in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

My wheels are spinning and I can’t quite figure out who Ramos might play in Ironheart. Could he play the mutant David Bond/Hijack? Hijack can seize control of vehicles and make them do his bidding. While the mechanical nature of Hijack’s powers could work well against Ironheart’s suit, Hijack doesn’t strike me as a character Marvel would have big plans for. I guess that we’ll all be surprised when Ramos’ role is finally revealed.
