Earlier this month we finally found out that upcoming comic adaptation R.I.P.D. had found it’s director in Robert Schwentke. But now that the film has it’s director all lined up could it be losing it’s star? According to the guys over at io9 it seems very possible.
You see io9 recently had the chance to chat with Reynolds about a few of his upcoming projects. The site wasted no time in asking Reynolds which flick we’d be seeing first: DEADPOOL or R.I.P.D.. Here’s what Reynolds responded with:
“People sort of ask this question, like I have any say in the matter. They’re both movies I’m interested in, they’re both movies that are in fast-track development. But I never say I’m doing a movie until I break for lunch the first day. Because it’s such a crapshoot, this industry. Everything’s so fickle and so contingent on so many factors, aside from just an actor. And because it has an actor, and because these films have interested directors, it’s obviously likely that they’ll both get made. But I think it would be more likely that only one of them gets made with me.”
Reynolds also states that whichever film he does choose to do it won’t be until after he wraps both THE CHANGE-UP and SAFE HOUSE anyway. So regardless we’ve got a ways to wait… But which flick do you think the actor will tackle? Common sense says DEADPOOL is the easy choice considering it’s the bigger of the two properties and it’d probably be a lot easiter to re-cast R.I.P.D.. I don’t know about you guys but I’d bet good money Reynolds and company go with DEADPOOL over R.I.P.D. in the end… But is that neccessarily a bad thing? Now I’m a fan of Reynolds but it’s not like him leaving R.I.P.D. would destory the flick… or would it?
R.I.P.D.’s synopsis reads: Two cops, one recently dead and a gunslinger who’s been dead for hundreds of years, work on the Rest In Peace Department – which is the police department of the dead. And they basically…it takes place on a normal day and it’s about trying to keep the dead quiet.
