School of Rock hits the 20-year mark next year and Jack Black is taking the time to look back fondly on making the film as the anniversary approaches.
During a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jack Black was asked about the upcoming anniversary of the film and when he took the time to think back on making it, Black revealed that he considers the movie the highlight of his career. The actor said, “My best memories are just the group of kids, and how funny and great they were. It’s definitely the highlight of my career, I can say that. Honestly.”
Directed by Richard Linklater, School of Rock stars Jack Black as struggling guitarist Dewey Finn, who is fired from his band and subsequently poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. When he witnesses the musical talent of his students, Dewey forms a band of fourth-graders to attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands and house his winnings to pay his rent. Released on October 3, 2003, the film scored with critics and moviegoers, securing a 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing $131.3 million worldwide. The movie also earned some awards attention, with Black earning a Golden Globe nomination for his work. The film was the highest-grossing music-themed comedy of all time until the release of Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015. The movie also spawned a stage musical adaptation that opened on Broadway in December 2015.
School of Rock is definitely one of Jack Black’s best efforts so I can see why he would consider it a career highlight. The film also seems to gain a new audience as the years go on. It certainly has had legs since its release back in 2003.
