Jack O’Connell out, Alden Ehrenreich in for horror love tale Beautiful Creatures

Changing leads less than a month before filming? Quite a tall task for Richard LaGravenese and Alcon Entertainment…

But that’s precisely what they face with the replacement of young male lead Jack O’Connell for Alden Ehrenreich. Ehrenreich (above) will now play one of the love-struck leads in BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, opposite Alice Englert. Apparently a scheduling snafu for O’Connell was the cause.

Logistically the swap makes sense, as Alden is only 9 or so months older than O’Connell. A better question, will he get a handle on the character mere weeks from filming?

Also featuring Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, Emmy Rossum (below), Thomas Mann, Zoey Deutch, Margo Martindale and Rachel Brosnahan:

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES is set in the South about two star-crossed teenage lovers – a local boy (Ehrenreich), and a mysterious new girl (Englert) who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town.

Filming begins in New Orleans later this month. A release date is set for February 1, 2013.
