John Krasinski had quite the year in 2018, what with directing the smash hit A QUIET PLACE and starring in the first season of the Amazon action series JACK RYAN. There’s no reason to stop the good times now, and before season one officially aired a season two of RYAN was greenlit, and now in proper fashion, Amazon has confirmed a season three before the second season has hit the airwaves. Krasinski is about to be a much busier man, so best lock him in for those world-saving adventures now.

Based off the popular character created by Tom Clancy, the new JACK RYAN series switches things up a bit from the movies made around the character, with this Ryan introduced as a young member of the CIA, before he started being the badass he will become. Krasinski takes over the role from actors like Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Chris Pine, all of whom played Ryan in various movies across the decades. LOST and FRINGE’s Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland are behind the show, and head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, spoke about renewing the show this early, claiming the satisfaction over this new season and saying she “saw no reason not to do more.”

The show’s first season received mostly good reviews, many praising the action and starring performance from Krasinski. The second season has not aired yet but will find Ryan dealing with issues inside a declining government regime in South America. Dennie Gordon (GOLIATH, BLOODLINE) has been tapped to direct three of season two’s eight episodes.

I haven’t seen the show yet but I’ve heard great things, and I’m interested in seeing Krasinski as a true action star. If a third season is already greenlit it must mean Amazon has big plans for the series, and if that’s the case I better check it out and see what all the fuss is about.
