When we last reported on the pair of films featuring the name Eleanor Rigby in the title, Joel Edgerton was set to star with Jessica Chastain and the “DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY” part of the title was followed by the words “HERS” and “HIS” to signify the perspective each film woudl take on the same general story.
Now, for reasons undisclosed, Edgerton has been replaced by the equally talented James McAvoy and the titles have been changed to THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY: HER and THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY: HIM. The plot concerns “a love story that explores how a married couple in New York City deals with an emotional, life-altering experience, from the two different perspectives of the husband, Conor, a restaurant owner, and of the wife, Eleanor, who goes back to college.
Kirk D’Amico, CEO of Myriad Pictures (the folks behind the films), had this to say on how the project will conceivably work: “We have to make both films work on their own, both for the buyers but also for the audiences. Together these films will describe a fully, more complete look at these characters and their lives.”
So Schmoes – if you saw one of the films and were sufficiently intrigued, would you still be willing to catch the other? Or would you feel frustrated in the sense of not being able to take in the whole spectrum of story with one viewing?
