Gillian Flynn, the author of GONE GIRL and DARK PLACES, has another novel headed before cameras. Although this one will be for the small screen.
Flynn’s debut book, SHARP OBJECTS, is being developed for television by Entertainment One. Former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” writer Marti Noxon is penning the teleplay and executive producing. Omnipresent horror maven Jason Blum is also producing via his Blumhouse Productions.
Here’s the synopsis of the book:
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family’s Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming.
This is the third of Flynn’s three books to get an adaptation. Of course, GONE GIRL is coming this October from director David Fincher. Meanwhile, DARK PLACES, starring Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult, is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters in September.
