Jay on Bob’s State

So what the hell is up with RED STATE, writer/director Kevin Smith’s first foray into horror? We haven’t written anything on it since last year when the Weinsteins passed on it. That’s too bad because I really enjoy most of Smith’s flicks and would be interested to see how he handles our genre.

Well, I just heard some talk about RED STATE in the voice of Silent Bob’s hetero-lifemate Jay (Jason Mewes, right) who is really starting to build up a nice resume of horror (FEAST, THE TRIPPER, NETHERBEAST INCORPORATED). And although what Mewes mentioned was brief, it was also quite surprising, considering his aforementioned growing genre status. Have a look:

“Kevin hasn’t told me anything about it; I don’t know what it’s about, I don’t know anything. As far as I’m aware, he’s not going to be using anybody in the movie whom he’s worked with before; he wants to try to get all no-names, people he’s never worked with that no one knows. I don’t know if it’ll be his plan when he finally gets it going, but that’s his plan now.”

So there is at least some sort of plan. That must mean Smith is still moving forward with RED STATE, right? I heard that Mewes kicked the “chibba” a long time ago (congrats, by the way), so he has no good reason to bullshit us. Hopefully we’ll get to hear some more on STATE soon.

Remember Claire Forlani from Smith’s MALLRATS?
