Consider this anti-news, cause it refers to something that went down in the
90’s but hey it amused me, so it might might please at least three of ya.
When JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME and STEVEN SEAGAL were at their prime in the 90’s,
there was a bitter rivalry between the two. Both gents would constantly diss
each other in the press and on talk shows, basically verbally stepping up. I
never thought it went further than that, but according to another action star,
SLY STALLONE that is, it did! And I quote (from an interview in FHM mag):
Sly Stallone: “At a party in my home in Miami in 1997, Van Damme was tired of Seagal claiming he could kick his ass so he offered Seagal
outside into my back yard. Seagal made his excuses and left. But Van Damme, who
was berserk, tracked him down at a nightclub and offered him out again.Van Damme was too strong. Seagal wanted none of it.”
There you have it. It should be noted that 1997 was the height of Van Damme’s
yeyo problem, which would explain the “berserk” part of Sly’s story and
the lackluster DOUBLE TEAM that came out that year. 1997 wasn’t too kind to
Seagal either. FIRE DOWN BELOW came out and did poorly at the Box Office. Seagal
didn’t go theatrical again till EXIT WOUNDS 4 years later. Yup, it was rough
times for both dudes.
