It was just this morning when we brought you the news that Jack Huston was finally confirmed to star in Corin Hardy’s remake of THE CROW, and now according to James O’Barr, creator of the comic on which the film is based, it looks like Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) will be joining him in the role of Shelly, Eric Draven's girlfriend.
James O’Barr was speaking at the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention when he dropped the news of Findlay’s casting, adding that she had been his number one choice for the role since the beginning. Nothing has been signed yet (we’ve been down that road before, especially with this movie) but apparently it’s a done deal.
Among the other tidbits O'Barr let loose was that the film will shoot in Belgium, the majority of the cast will be British, and that an actor from Game of Thrones is eyeing one of the roles. Seeing as how it's never too early to talk about sequels these days, O'Barr touched on that as well saying that he hoped the film is successful enough to spawn a new franchise that wouldn't repeat itself like the old one did.
Does this film even need to be remade? To be honest it feels like just another in a long line of remakes that are born of a system bereft of new ideas. Like everything else I suppose we'll have to wait and see what happens. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in a couple of months.
Jessica Brown Findlay will next be seen in Paul McGuigan's VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. That film will see release on October 2, 2015.
