J.K. Simmons and Emile Hirsch to team up for The Runaround

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (that feels good to say) seems to be in great demand as the actor has just added another film to his growing slate of upcoming projects. THR reports that both J.K. Simmons and Emile Hirsch have signed on to star in THE RUNAROUND to be directed by Gavin Wiesen.

THE RUNAROUND focuses on a workaholic father, to be played by Simmons, who attempts to visit his daughter during a last-minute layover in Los Angeles only to discover that she's disappeared. He's forced to team up with her awkward, nervous ex-boyfriend, that's Hirsch's role, to find her over the course of one increasingly crazy night.

When I read through THR's report I skipped over one crucial bit; the film is a comedy. I was under the impression that this would be J.K. Simmons' TAKEN and was slightly disappointed to realize that wasn't the case. Simmons is no slouch in the comedy department though, particularly with tightly wound characters, so THE RUNAROUND should prove to be a great opportunity for him to show off some of those comedic chops.

Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel, co-founders and partners of The Solution Entertainment Group sound quite enthusiastic:

The producers have assembled a top-notch cast including J.K. Simmons, who is on everyone’s wish list after wowing audiences everywhere with his Oscar-winning performance in Whiplash, and the versatile Emile Hirsch on board. The script is a wildly entertaining ride from start to finish and we can’t wait to bring this film to audiences.

J.K. Simmons' upcoming projects include TERMINATOR: GENISYS and THE ACCOUNTANT. He's currently shooting THE MEDDLER with Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne. It won't all be films however, Simmons is also on board a new Starz series called Counterpoint which deals with parallel dimensions. I feel like I've neglected poor Emile Hirsch in this post but never fear, he also has a few upcoming projects. Hirsch will next be seen in TEN THOUSAND SAINTS with Ethan Hawke and VINCENT-N-ROXXY opposite Zoe Kravitz.
