Tolkien himself deemed The Lord of the Rings to be unfilmable and although there had been many attempts to adapt the series, it wasn't until Peter Jackson entered the picture that the entire trilogy was successfully translated to the big-screen. After a suitably epic production schedule, each of the three films was met with enormous commercial and critical praise and the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy remains one of the best examples of epic fantasy.
