John Boyega suits up in new photos from the set of Pacific Rim: Uprising

The road leading up to PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING has certainly been a bumpy one. Development on the much anticipated sequel to Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM was filled with delays which ended up with the project being shelved entirely, but, after being brought back from the brink of death, production on PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING finally got underway in Australia late last year. Phew. Under the director of Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil), the upcoming sequel stars John Boyega (STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS) as the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost. We still don't know much about UPRISING, but John Boyega Source were able to get a handful of photos from the set which show off Boyega in, what I assume to be, Jaeger gear.

In addition to John Boyega, PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING also stars Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Nick E. Tarabay and many others. It's also been rumoured that Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman would be reprising their roles from the first film, but nothing has been confirmed just yet. Guillermo del Toro did say that "a lot of the cast from the first movie is coming back," but we haven't really heard much on that front beyond knowing that Charlie Hunnam will not be returning.

PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING is set for a February 23, 2018 release.
