We’ve previously heard that the cast of director Tom DeNucci’s film Johnny & Clyde – a crime thriller that shifts into “balls-to-the-wall slasher/horror” mode as it goes along – would star Nick Principe, Robert LaSardo, Sean Ringgold, Armen Garo, and Tyson Ritter, with Megan Fox playing a character who has been described as “the devil’s daughter” and a “messed up, very dark, twisted version of a Disney princess”. But we’ve never heard who will be playing the title characters… Until Deadline broke the news today. Johnny and Clyde are going to be played by Avan Jogia, who genre fans may know from Zombieland: Double Tap (he’ll be going up against zombies again in next month’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), and Ajani Russell of the film Skate Kitchen and its HBO Max series spin-off Betty.

Vanessa Angel, Bai Ling, Brett Azar, and Sydney Jenkins have also been added to the cast.

Johnny & Clyde follows

the two eponymous serial killers who are madly in love and on an endless crime spree. They have their sights set on robbing a prosperous casino run by crime boss Alana (Fox) and her head of security (Ritter).

Robbing that casino turns out to be a terrible idea when Alana traps the thieves in the cash room and unleashes a masked supernatural slasher on them. Principe, who is best known for playing the slasher ChromeSkull in the Laid to Rest movies, pulls double duty in this film, playing an associate of Johnny and Clyde’s called Butcher as well as the masked slasher.

Principe also wrote the screenplay with DeNucci.

Johnny & Clyde is being produced by Chad A. Verdi, Michelle Verdi, Chad A. Verdi Jr, Paul Luba, and Nick Koskoff. Andre Relis, David Gere, J.D. Beaufils, Jessica Bennett, Mickey Guerin, Anthony Gudas, and Chelsea Vale serve as executive producers. Amy Lippens and Ali Cesare are co-producers.

Chad A. Verdi had this to say about the casting of Jogia and Russell:

The roles of Johnny and Clyde were the last pieces of the puzzle needed. The interest in this film from distributors is mind-blowing. This is the most diverse cast I have ever put together. The energy that Avan and Ajani are bringing to the table is exciting.”

Johnny & Clyde sounds cool to me, I’m really looking forward to seeing how this movie is going to turn out.
