Johnny Depp has six months to live life on the edge in The Professor trailer

Saban Films has announced that a trailer for THE PROFESSOR starring Johnny Depp is now in session. In the upcoming comedic drama directed and written by KATIE SAYS GOODBYE helmer Wayne Roberts, Depp delivers a wickedly funny performance as Richard, a buttoned-down college lecturer who, after learning he has six months to live, transforms into a rebellious party animal. To the shock of his wife (Rosemarie DeWitt) and school chancellor (Ron Livingston)—and the delight of his students—Richard leads a hilarious crusade against authority and hypocrisy in this dark comedy co-starring Zoey Deutch.

The Professor, Johnny Depp, comedy

“My name is Richard. I’m your professor. From here on out we’re going to do things very differently,” says Depp's Richard as he introduces himself to his class. “Oh, and if any of you sell marijuana, please visit me during office hours.”

Oh boy. I'm starting to experience flashbacks related to my old English professor, Mr. Newcombe. He was a pretty swingin' cat, and definitely partook of the sweet leaf that always seemed to be emanating from the teacher's lounge. He would do the craziest shit, like pairing the "prettiest girl" with our "class slacker" for the re-enactment of a kissing scene from William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet. I've got more stories, but I'll save them for another time.

Depp, once one of Hollywood's most beloved actors, has seen something of a falling from grace since his ex-wife, Amber Heard, testified that she was a victim of domestic abuse on the Jack Sparrow actor's behalf. Since that time, Depp's name has left something of a bad taste in the mouths of many, so it should be interesting to see how THE PROFESSOR is received by audiences when it arrives in theaters on May 17th.
