Joker and Harley Quinn film replaces Gotham City Sirens

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

So, the DCEU seems to be a shit-show right now, huh? No one seems to know what's going on! Things are out-of-continuity, then back-in-continuity, while other things – like that Joker origin story from Martin Scorsese and Todd Phillips – are still out of continuity…I mean, it's madness!

Then there came news that the people behind CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE would be behind a JOKER AND HARLEY QUINN film. But, wasn't there already David Ayer's GOTHAM CITY SIRENS – where Harley Quinn teams up with Catwoman and Poison Ivy – coming out? Why are there three goddamn Joker movies being released so close together?

Well, that's because there won't be three. Here's what Tracking Board had to say about the situation:

Described as a “criminal love story” in the vein of Natural Born Killers, [JOKER AND HARLEY QUINN] would come on the heels of the characters’ reunion in Suicide Squad 2, and would take the place of Gotham City Sirens, which has been reconceived [sic].

Oof. This sucks. I was actually looking forward to GOTHAM CITY SIRENS. Despite my misgivings about David Ayer's previous SUICIDE SQUAD, I had hopes for a badass, female-driven comic-book film. Not only that, but Ayer had gone on social media to admit to the film's failures and where it went wrong – showing he was willing to listen and grow. Even better, rumors were floating around that the film would be about Harley leaving The Joker and going on her own – where she is most interesting as a character, anyway. To go back on that, and to glorify their abusive relationship (like SUICIDE SQUAD did) seems to be a real step backwards. I mean, I liked CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE fine. I just don't like the sound of this at all.

Anyway, what do you Schmoes think? You down for a JOKER AND HARLEY QUINN movie? Either way, sound off below!
