Jorge Michel Grau’s first film, the subdued cannibal drama WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, made a splash a few years ago upon its release (it has already been remade, by Jim Mickle). Now it sounds like he’s taking another unusual approach to a familiar horror topic with KEEP QUIET, which has just commenced casting.

Veteran Mexican actor Damian Alcazar (THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN) is in negotiations to join Grau’s dramatic thriller, according to Variety. He’ll play the elder of a father-son pair who attempt to recoup after the death of the family’s matriarch.

The film’s synopsis:

After the murder of his wife, Alberto decides to exile with his son, Alan. Both venture into a violent world inhabited by mean characters that frame the development of Alan´s schizophrenia: He hallucinates that his father is a werewolf, a violent creature who threatens everything – Alan included – in his vicinity. According to legend, only a loved one can kill the beast. And Alan knows the legend.

The film is reportedly big on social context (as was WE ARE WHAT WE ARE), with the violence rampant in Mexico looming in the background. The genre element will be something of a metaphor, which is not uncommon in horror, as we well know.

KEEP QUIET is being produced by Mayra Espinosa Castro at Mexico City-based Velarium Arts, while Todd Brown of L.A.-based XYZ Films (THE RAID: REDEMPTION) is co-developing and may also produce.
