Jude Law in talks for male lead opposite Brie Larson in Captain Marvel

Today, Variety has exclusively reported that Jude Law is in talks to star as the male lead opposite Brie Larson in Marvel's CAPTAIN MARVEL. The deal would find Law joining Ben Mendelsohn, who'd recently boarded the highly-anticipated female superhero adventure as the film's villain.

HALF NELSON directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will helm the project, with Kevin Feige producing and Geneva Robertson-Dworet penning the most recent script for the film. CAPTAIN MARVEL will tell the extraordinary tale of Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight.

Upon boarding the movie, Law will play Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who acts as a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she explores her newfound powers. The film will take place during the 1990s and will feature Samuel L. Jackson as a young(er) Nick Fury.

Whoa! Law as Captain Mar-vell? That's a pretty wild casting choice, but hey, I'm down. For those of you who've done your Captain Marvel homework, you'll already be aware of how significant Mar-vell is to Carol's journey. I'm anxious to see what Law will bring to the table, and what he'll look like if the character designers opt to give him long, flowing blonde locks. Turns out that I might have to bring a hand-fan to this one, folks.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is expected to soar "higher, faster, further, more" in theaters beginning on March 8, 2019.
