Justin Lin to produce and possibly direct family adventure flick Toymageddon

Justin Lin‘s name keeps popping up connected to more projects than he could possibly direct. Last week it was the adaptation of THE BATTERED BASTARDS OF BASEBALL and this week it is the family movie TOYMAGEDDON. No plot details have been revealed surrounding the project aside from the fact that Lin has obtained the rights to the pitch through his Perfect Storm production banner.

The Hollywood Reporter only offers the following vague description of the movie.

Toymageddon, a four quadrant, live-action family adventure movie in the vein of JURASSIC PARK and GHOSTBUSTERS. The lid on the plot details is being kept tightly shut but it is known to center around a toy factory that runs amok.

While that may sound a lot like the 1998 movie SMALL SOLDIERS, it remains to be seen if TOYMAGEDDON is being conceived as an animated film or a live action one. I would think with the comparisons made above that it will be a mix of CGI and live actors. The story also states that once a writer is selected to develop the script, that will dictate whether Lin directs or not. Lin is currently attached to the next film in the BOURNE franchise with star Jeremy Renner.

I think a live action TOY STORY is an interesting idea, as is Justin Lin helming a family-friendly movie. But, this is one of those films that could go bad real quick if not given the proper script. There is no projected release date or production date for TOYMAGEDDON, so stay tuned for more details.
