WARNING: THIS STORY CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE. I KNOW THE FILM HAS BEEN OUT FOR OVER THREE WEEKS BUT JUST IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T SEEN IT YET, READ ON AT YOUR OWN RISK.

The most talked-about moment in Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been a post-credits scene that has left fans speculating about the future of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and its connection to the MCU. Now that the Venom sequel has been out a few weeks, Marvel boss Kevin Feige spoke with “The Hollywood Reporter” at the Eternals premiere and revealed how the Venom 2 post-credits scene came together because of cooperation between Sony and Marvel. He confirmed that the creative teams behind Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home “worked together on it.” The Marvel chief went on to say, “There was a lot of coordination, and if you don’t know all the coordination yet, I’m not going to be the one to tell you, but yes, between Sony and Marvel and the Venom team and the No Way Home team. We worked together on it.”

The post-credits scene saw Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) seemingly transported to the MCU where he watches J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) reveal Spider-Man’s (Tom Holland) identify on live TV. The scene seems to set the stage for a possible meeting between the two popular comic book characters but it still remains unclear when that might happen. Fans loved the scene because, until this reveal, Sony’s Spider-Man universe and the Disney-owned MCU have remained separate. This doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.

Directed by Andy Serkis with a screenplay from Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock/Venom alongside Woody Harrelson, who is bringing one of Venom’s biggest adversaries, Cletus Kasady/Carnage, to life. Kasady is a psychotic serial killer who also becomes the host of an alien symbiote known as Carnage. Also new to the franchise is Naomie Harris, playing the role of Shriek, Kasady’s love interest. Michelle Williams returns as Eddie’s ex-fiancee, district attorney Anne Weying, while Reid Scott rounds out the cast as Anne’s boyfriend. The film currently holds the biggest opening weekend of the year and the pandemic with its $90 million debut three weeks ago.
