A couple weeks ago I told you all about a supernatural series Kevin Williamson was working on that would serve as a companion series to his current CW series “The Vampire Diaries.” Details were scarce at the time but what we were told is that this new series would basically be “The X-Files meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Well I suppose Williamson (right) got tired of all the ‘he-said-she-said’ hooplah so he’s gone ahead and set the record straight over at Entertainment Weekly’s Inside TV blog. Why beat around the bush? Scope out what Williamson had to say:
‘What is Buffy meets The X-Files?’ They’re completely at odds tonally. It’s neither. It’s set on a college campus. There’s a little bit of some paranormal investigation involved, but it’s more about the characters. It’s more about what Julie and I like to do, which is create a world of people. A young girl goes to college, and it turns out there’s a lot more going on.’
He even goes on to explain a bit more as to what we can expect with this new series:
“….we’ve got this whole world and this whole sort of mythology about this girl and this journey that she takes. It’s full of scary, horrible murder and surprises, and all the twists and turns that we love to do, but once again it is a story about epic love. That’s what we’re about here at The Vampire Diaries. And that’s sort of why you call it a ‘companion piece,’ is because you will see those similarities in the show. You know, a bunch of fun characters that you can visit every week and watch them go through all these scary, twisty story lines, but it all leads to some greater story about epic and tragic love.”
When asked if there’s crossover potential between this new show and “The Vampire Diaries,” which had previously been denied, Williamson responded: “Absolutely.”
So there you have it folks. You can’t always believe what you read. We’ll be keeping an eye on Williamson’s new series with hopes this thing ends up being as twisted as it sounds. Then again it’s going to be on the CW so there goes that… As always be sure to keep it here for more on the project as we hear it!
