According to Variety, the Dean Koontz novel THE HUSBAND has been picked up and greenlit thanks to the fine folks at Focus Features.
Set to be directed by Danish director Ole Bornedal, THE HUSBAND is about an ordinary working man whose love for his wife is put to a harrowing series of tests over a 60-hour period.
That’s the fifty thousand foot view of the story. Here’s a little taste of what the film will likely echo, taken directly from the description of the novel itself: One morning, Southern California gardener Mitchell Rafferty gets a call on his cellphone from a stranger saying that Mitch’s beloved wife, Holly, has been kidnapped and that he has less than three days to come up with $2 million in cash. Of course, he’s warned not to involve the police. While Mitch is still on the phone, the kidnapper proves his seriousness by directing Mitch’s attention to a man walking a dog across the street. A moment later the man is shot dead. Mitch must walk a fine line—cooperating with the police inquiry into this murder without revealing Holly’s plight.
Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! A tale of cat-and-mouse, the novel has been compared to thrillers of the likes of Alfred Hitchcock and Cornell Woolrich. Sounds good to me, yo!
