Another hour goes by, another remake is announced. Earlier today I told you about the DEATH WISH remake that’s in the works (check that out HERE), and now I have yet another remake announced that’s gearing up for production.
From Mirovision and NHO Entertainment comes the U.S. remake of the 2005 Korean horror flick APT. Mirovision was behind the original flick, and is now wanting to cash in on remaking it for English-based audiences. Nothing like the smell of green to kick a remake into high gear…
The original was directed by Byeong-ki Ahn and went a little something like this: a young woman who lives in an old apartment in a Seoul suburb, amuses herself by observing the windows of the apartments on the other side. One day, she notices that the lights of some of these apartments are turned off at the very same time. She begins to suspect that this pattern is somehow related to a series of mysterious deaths in the neighborhood. She becomes more and more deeply involved as she attempts to solve the mystery.
Wait a second… this sound’s suspiciously like Alfred Hitchcock’s REAR WINDOW! Could this be, then, a remake of a remake of a remake? I’m sure it’s different enough to be more of a rip-off than an actual remake, but still… that’s a little too similar for me!
Anyway, the remake of APT is set to begin soon, as producers are looking to announce the director within the next month… from there, it’s just a matter of time before this puppies turned around and a year from now we’re seeing it on the big screen. Yippie.
I Googled ‘APT’ and this came up… so I just went with it.
