Korean monster film Monstrum unleashes US trailer!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

So, this looks cool! A big-budget, action-packed, period piece South Korean monster film? Sign me up! The film is titled MONSTRUM, and is set in

the 16th Century. The plague has taken over and fear runs rampant in the streets. When rumors of a vicious beast roaming Mount Inwangsan—called “Monstrum” by terrified masses—begin to spread, fear turns into panic. In order to quell the rising panic, King Jungjong brings his most trusted general, Yoon-gyeom, back from retirement. Joined by his daughter Myeong, his right-hand man Seong-han, and royal court officer Heo, Yoon-gyeom sets out to find the mysterious creature. Is the creature, Monstrum, real? Or a figment of mass imagination?

Again, looks great to me! And Korea has been killing it in the horror game for a while now, with THE TRAIN TO BUSAN, I SAW THE DEVIL, THE WAILING – and if we're talking solely giant monster movies – Bong Joon-ho's THE HOST ranks among the best. So I'm definitely looking forward to this one!

Meanwhile, the Korean creature feature – directed by Jong-ho Huh and starring Woo-sik Choi, Myung-Min Kim, In-kwon Kim, Sung-woong Park, Hyeri Lee, and Hee-soon Park – was released in 2018, winning the Audience Award at the Sitges International Film Festival, but will premiere exclusively to the public on Shudder later this year!

So what do you guys think? Any other great Korean monster movies to check out (besides, of course, PULGASARI)? Either way, sound off below!
