Kruger’s Talisman

THE RING TWO writer Ehren Kruger sat down with iFMagazine to talk about that p.o.s. of a movie, but he also had some things to say about some upcoming projects, namely THE TALISMAN.

Yes, the Stephen King/ Peter Straub adventure is finally going to happen, with Kruger adapting for the screen. Here’s what he had to say:

“It looked like it was going to happen with a couple different directors, but creative differences intervened for the moment. Hopefully, it will get back underway later this year. It was quite difficult to adapt as my mandate was to craft a two-hour movie from an 800-page book. A miniseries might be more faithful, but you’d miss the feature-film scale. So there was a constant struggle to determine what could be kept and what had to go. Some other writers have since worked on it and hopefully it’ll all get solved. There’s a wonderful story and characters at its core.”

Wow. I can’t really see THE TALISMAN being any shorter than a 4 hour epic, i.e. miniseries. But at the same time, I can’t really see it as a made-for-TV feature. Either way, I hope Kruger can capture the essence of what THE TALISMAN was all about, as it’s one of my favorite books.

Next up for Kruger, this summer’s THE SKELETON KEY, and Terry Gilliam’s THE BROTHERS GRIMM. To check out the entire interview, go ahead and click HERE.
