Latest videogame to be turned into a movie is ‘Darksiders’

Hearing an announcement that a video game is being turned into a movie these days is about as surprising as hearing it’s going to be cold in January in Michigan. But when a movie is rumored for a game that was just released yesterday? That’s bound to raise a few eyebrows.

DARKSIDERS gives players control of War, as in, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. The game, which looks a lot like GOD OF WAR, involves running around killing demons and angels and everything in between, and has debuted to unexpectedly solid reviews on the PS3 and 360, which sparked talk of a movie all of a sudden. The game also has the advantage of being written (and creatively directed) by comic legend Joe Madureira, and it reportedly has a pretty great story to build a film around.

Nothing is definite yet, and as you can see from the screenshot above, and the infer from the general plot outline, this is a movie that would likely need a pretty massive budget to create CGI hordes of demons, flaming horses and god-men wearing armor that can stop an SCUD missile and wielding giant swords that would make Cloud blush.

I haven’t gotten a chance to play the actual game yet. Has anyone out there been impressed by it in the 48 hours since its release? I’m stunned I’ve heard nothing about it until this week. An 86 on Metacritic ain’t nothing to sneeze at.
